ABOUT BLYDE PRIDE SHETLAND

WHAT IS BLYDE PRIDE SHETLAND?

We are a community association which has been formed to enable a line of communication between Shetland’s LGBT Community and public bodies & agencies as well as working to provide information and resources to ensure the wellbeing of the LGBT community.

Shetland has a diverse LGBT community and whilst we live in a safe and welcoming society there are still areas where development is required to ensure we have an equal society with provision of understanding and services for everyone in Shetland.

As well as working with public bodies & agencies we will be developing a range of information for the LGBT community and for businesses and the community to have a better understanding and knowledge of the situations, needs and resources which will make Shetland a more equal, safe and accepting community for all residents.

The aims of Blyde Pride Shetland are:

  • The promotion of equality within the Shetland Community.

  • To promote the wider understanding of sexuality, gender identity and LGBT issues in the Shetland community.

  • To provide a source of support and information for all within the Shetland community regarding LGBT issues.

  • To counter discrimination based on sexuality or gender identity in Shetland.

  • To provide community support for national, governmental and local initiatives related to LGBT issues where applicable.

WHO'S INVOLVED

If the name Blyde Pride Shetland seems familiar it is because it is formed of an earlier branch of the Shetland LGBT Working Group. As a new community association we have formed a committee with the following in the office bearers positions:

Chair: Robin Mouatt

Treasurer: Darren Blance

We will be working closely with the Shetland LGBT Working Group and the LGBT Shetland Social Group.
